Is
40:22 (NKJ) |
It
is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And
its inhabitants
are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. |
Amazingly,
here we have a
description of a spherical Earth, long before this was known to
science. |
Ps
104:2 (NKJ) |
Who
cover Yourself with light as with a garment, Who
stretch out the heavens like a curtain. |
All
of these verses describe God stretching out the heavens.
Repeated
so many times, it seems this is something not meant to be missed.
This speaks directly to the expansion of the universe that
has
been continuing since the beginning of time. Predicted here
over
2700 years before humanity had any concept of Big
Bang Theory.
These verses also talk about who God is. They describe Him as
the
Creator of all that exists. He is not a God who set things in
motion and stands back to watch, but is actively involved in the
process. He acts in the world and throughout the universe
still;
the forces of nature are His hands. As in His forming of a
baby in
the womb or in the expansion of the universe.
Heaven is described as the home of God and is the place of the stars.
This encompasses the whole universe, even those parts far
beyond
our view. There may be more to heaven than the material part
we
can see, but it certainly includes all of the physical universe.
Heaven had a beginning, and it was created by God. |
Is
42:5 (NKJ) |
Thus
says the Lord, Who
created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth
and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, And
spirit to those who walk on it: |
Is
44:24 (NKJ) |
Thus
says the Lord, your
Redeemer, And He who formed you from the womb: "I am the
Lord,
who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who
spreads abroad the earth by Myself; |
Is
45:12 (NKJ) |
I
have made the earth, And
created man on it. I--My hands--stretched out the heavens,
And
all their host I have commanded. |
Is
48:13 (NKJ) |
Indeed
My hand has laid the foundation of the earth, And
My right hand has stretched out the heavens; When I call to them, They
stand up together. |
Is
51:13 (NKJ) |
And
you forget the Lord your Maker, Who stretched out
the heavens And laid the foundations of the earth... |
Jer
10:12 (NKJ) |
He
has made the earth by His power, He has established
the world by His wisdom, And has stretched out the heavens at His
discretion. |
Jer
51:15 (NKJ) |
He
has made the earth by His power; He has established
the world by His wisdom, And stretched out the heaven by His
understanding. |
Zech
12:1 (NKJ) |
The
burden of the word of the Lord against Israel.
Thus says the Lord, who stretches out the heavens, lays the
foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him: |
Is
45:18 (NKJ) |
For
thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is
God, Who formed
the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in
vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: "I am the Lord, and there is no
other. |
This
speaks to the purpose
of it all. God created the earth for a purpose, for us.
Naturalism proposes that our planet was just a chance
occurrence,
our existence is pure luck. But the Bible claims that all
that we
see is for a purpose, according to God's plan. Due to the
fine tuning of the laws of physics, optimized for life; it is evident
that the universe is made for a purpose, as indicated in this verse. |
Is
51:6 (NKJ) |
Lift
up your eyes to the heavens, And look on the earth
beneath. For the heavens will vanish away like smoke, The
earth
will grow old like a garment, And those who dwell in it will die in
like manner; But My salvation will be forever, And My righteousness
will not be abolished. |
These
passages all predict the end of the earth and of the universe.
Science also predicts that the universe will come to
an end, and even wear out as it's store of energy is
eventually exhausted.
The good news is that God is forever and so is salvation for His
followers. He will one day make a new heaven to replace the present
universe that will pass away. |
Ps
102:25-26 (NKJ) |
Of
old You laid the foundation of the earth, And the
heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You will
endure; Yes they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You
will
change them, And they will be changed. |
Heb
1:10-12 (NKJ) |
"You,
Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the
earth, And the heavens are the work of Your Hands. They will
perish, but You remain; And they will all grow old like a garment; Like
a cloak You will fold them up, And they will be changed. But
You
are the same, And Your years will not fail." |
